Here at Shadowood: A complete line of organic, heirloom and non-GMO vegetable and herb seeds from companies like Renee’s Garden, High Mowing and Cornucopia. Our huge selection of starter plants are grown using organic practices from day one. We carry everything you need to grow great organic food at home or here in our collective gardening paradise.

The Shadowood Organic Food Garden

    A portion of the food harvested from a large space on 3/31/11. Kohlrabi, Yellow and Green Zucchini Squash, White Onions, Pole Beans, Italian Kale, Dill Blossoms, Heirloom Zucchini, Buttercrunch Lettuce, Radishes, Bulbing Fennel, Sea of Red Romaine Lettuce, Yellow and Red Pear Tomatoes, Gold Jubilee Tomatoes, Orange and Yellow Carrots, Neon Swiss Chard and assorted Chile Peppers.

What is this? A community type food garden  in Palm City. Shadowood offers individual, raised garden plot rental spaces where you can grow your own organic foods from October through April/May with help from friends and other food growers. Plant,learn, grow, pick, eat, share!

Our first gardens  in 2010 were a great success in spite of multiple frost and freeze events… We  built the #2 Garden in 2011 and shared a wonderful second season.  Our #3 Garden was constructed in the summer of 2012 and was full of happy gardeners during our third season. Now, we are currently preparing our garden beds in anticipation of a fabulous fourth season of collective food gardening. As of May 4th, 2013- all of our season four spaces have been reserved. We are currently accepting names on our waiting list for the 2013/14 Season.

Our goal is to offer something for everyone who wants affordable,  fresh, organic and local food, so here are your options at Shadowood:

  • You can rent a garden space and learn to grow your own food. Sorry, but we are currently full  for our Fall 2013 spaces. Become a General Member to be placed on our Waiting List.
  • OR….You have the option of becoming a General Member for $35 per season. With a General membership you have the opportunity to attend classes, seminars, the option to buy veggies from Shadowood gardeners at ultra reasonable prices, 6 days a week. This membership is perfect for folks who already garden at home, those who want to learn more about organic food production OR those who want to purchase ready vegetables and herbs from November through April. New members are always welcome and the membership fees are pro-rated mid-season.
  • Fresh Food Picked on February 5th, 2011

Fresh veggies picked from a 6 x 12 space on December 1, 2010. Mixed Leaf Lettuce, Arugula, Red Romaine Lettuce, Lancinato Kale, Assorted Chile Peppers and 3 1/2 pounds of Beets and one yellow pear Tomato. The approximate value: $30! This is one weeks harvest.
